Little Raspberries!

We still haven't told our families about the babies on the way.  We have a photographer coming this weekend to take some pictures, so maybe once we get one of those, we'll send it along to the family. Honestly, I'm being selfish.  I know this is the last time I get to share this good news, and I'm waiting until I feel better to enjoy the reveal.

In baby news this week, we now have two little raspberries growing.  We saw them again on ultrasound yesterday, and both babies look great so far.

Baby A measured in at 7w3d with a heartbeat of 166 bpm.
Baby B measured in at 8w0d with a heartbeat of 167 bpm.

We have now been "graduated" from Dr. Delaney and sent along to Dr. Medlock for the remaining prenatal care.  I will see him on April 13 and plan to share our happy news with the world shortly thereafter.  Seems like good Easter news to me :).

Well...Well...

Here I am 3 days past my ultrasound, and this is the first I've felt enough energy to use my free time for something other than sleep.  Don't get me wrong... I'm laying in bed as I type this trying to hold down my lunch, but the fact that I'm typing is a miracle!

Speaking of miracles... we have TWINS on board!  That's right - there are TWO babies in my belly!

Let me back up a little. I knew there was a chance of up to 4 babies because of our ovulation induction results. And, I knew from the high HCG numbers that the chance of multiples was really good, so I was so anxious going into my ultrasound on Thursday. Twice in the two weeks leading up to the appointment, I had full-on anxiety attacks in the middle of the night. Barry and I had discussed all the choices and challenges we were going to face if we were pregnant with multiples, and I was dreading all of that. So Thursday morning, I was a ball of nerves.

When Dr. Delaney walked in the room, I asked her to "give us the right amount of good news." She laughed nervously - too professional to say what she was thinking until after the ultrasound. Which by the way, she too was nervous that we were going to have a high order multiple situation.

So, the test started and at first, I could see lots of black blobs and had a hard time telling what was ovarian and what was in the uterus, and the nurses and doctor weren't saying anything. I was literally holding my breath. Then everything was clear, there were two sacs, two fetal poles, and two heartbeats. I didn't see one of the heartbeats, but Dr. Delaney caught it right away. She didn't skip a beat saying, "there are ONLY two, so you can breathe Dad, and I see two heartbeats." Barry followed with, "you're sure there are only two, right?" Everyone chuckled and then I started crying. I'm still in disbelief... we are going to be a family of 6!

Baby A's heartbeat was 117bmp
Baby B's heartbeat was 120bpm
Both are measuring perfectly for the 6 week mark!

So now the journey toward welcoming our newest little additions begins. I'll track the fun and craziness here... First step, tell the family that we are expecting again. I think we might hold-on to the twin news for a bit longer though, just because it's a fun secret to have to ourselves.

So Far, So Queasy

I am 5 weeks, 6 days pregnant.  The reality of it is starting to hit me!  The exhaustion, queasiness and constant need to "eat a little something" are constant reminders that there's a baby growing in here... Particularly the cravings for Thai sweet and sour as well as potatoes in any form - mashed, roasted or fries will do :).

Here's what has transpired since I received my BFP a couple weeks ago.  I obsessively followed my at-home testing to make sure the results were getting stronger and stronger.  Success on that front!

Dr. Delaney took two of my beta hcg and progesterone measurements to ensure they were rising appropriately, and the results were excellent!
2/22, 14dpo, beta = 442 and progesterone over 40
2/24, 16dpo, beta = 974 and progesterone over 40

With 2 great results, Dr. Delaney advised we avoid any further testing until the early OB scan at 6 weeks.  We are scheduled for that on Thursday, March 9.  Fingers and toes crossed that we have a successful heartbeat!! Both times we have seen a heartbeat at 6 weeks, we successfully carried Ryleigh and Elizabeth, so we are praying for the same this time around.  If Thursday is a success, we need to start thinking about creative announcement ideas for our extended family.
